MARCO LAGUARDIA
and i don't know where to look; my words just break and melt
male | twenty-four | heterosexual |
illyis | writer | polo |
PERSONALITY (+)Calm & laid back: Really, Marco is pretty easy going and laid back with not many things actually getting to him. Insulting him to the face will cause him to leave rather than anything else. When under pressure he'll simply refuse to acknowledge the severity and continue doing things as efficiently and calmly as before. This also means that once he is well and thoroughly angry at you emotion won't get in the way. He'll just put you down quickly, quietly and with extreme prejudice. (+)Witty: His sense of humor is pretty odd actually; it's just as likely to leave you confused as it is to make you laugh. However it's translated well enough for his fans to like, so it can't be all that bad now, can it? (+)Reserved: Marco doesn't say anything until he feels that it's completely necessary for it to be heard. More often than not what he does have to say is well thought out and then delivered in short and concise sentences. (+)Savvy: Really writing does inspire from real life after all. As a result from that, and a post-graduate degree from the School of Hard Knocks, Marco has a knack for spotting trends. That guy with the maniacal laughter? Villain; avoid him. Visionary with inspired speeches and sparkling eyes? Protagonist; avoid him too, a quiet life is best after all. (-)Sarcastic: It's not as apparent with people he doesn't know, but once you get him talking (or drunk) you'll realize that Marco is an A-Class snarker and is prone to taking digs at every other statement uttered aloud. (-)Unsocial: No really, it's not that he actively dislikes company, it's just that he prefers doing his own thing, things which are best complimented by silence. And human beings are such noisy creatures. So Marco tries his best to avoid social gatherings and company (except for Helena's) except for short periods of time. (-)Apathetic: Guess what? Marco doesn't really care. He's had his own go at being the hero and it failed pretty miserably, now he just wants to do his own thing. In order to convince him to do anything you have to really want it and badger him until he gives in. (-)Lazy: Laid-back's obnoxious cousin; laziness ensures that Marco doesn't do anything except at his own pace, a pace which could match a Slowpoke's step for step, or lack of thereof as the case is. | [DIS]LIKES Likes: (+)Sweet and sugary foods. (+)Fantasy novels. (+)Poetry. (+)Quiet company. (+)Observing Pokemon, nature and stargazing. (+)Music. (+)Poker & chess. (+)Heights. Dislikes: (-)Combing or cutting his hair. (-)Shaving. (-)Being told what to do. (-)Comments on what he does. (-)Bright lights. (-)Crowds. (-)Politics and aristocracy. (-)Long journeys in vehicles. |
POKEMON helena, flash fire, female flamethrower ● psyshock quick attack ● heat wave | HISTORY Growing up Marco never really grew out of the age in which you wanted to be a superhero. He always wanted to be that guy who would stand up to the bullies and run after the thieves who stole old grannies' bags. As a kid he could never quite scrounge up the courage to do so though. He was well read, having a passion for history especially, and so he was horrified by the perceived atrocities committed by the people of the Citadel and Illyis against the less fortunate provinces. So he decided what he was going to do; he was going to become an activist. It took all of one month for his father to find out, and then the man sat Marco -sixteen then- down and had a talk with him. The Citadel had a reputation, see, and it would not only come after Marco if he went down this path; but the whole family. Besides, the people who Marco was going to stick his neck out for were simply not worth it. Disillusioned Marco ran away with Helena, who was a Vulpix back then. He was sixteen and he had a crusade to fight. Only, as Marco would find out, 'the people' really weren't worth it. They were more focused on getting revenge for old wrongs to really care if Marco wanted to help- he was from Illyis and that was that. As for the attitude of the people from his own province -the less said the better. At twenty, revolutionary spirit thoroughly crushed, Marco drifted around Illyis. Eventually he found a steady source of income other than the occasional odd job; his writings on what he had seen and experienced. They were whimsical, short stories and poems on Pokemon, nature and human life in general, apolitical insofar anybody could see; but apparently that was 'in' nowadays. He's been doing it for four years now, having gathered a small fan following on the way. He still drifts around from place to place- sending finished works to his editors via electronic means. He doesn't dislike his life as it is now, but some days he wakes up feeling discontent and like he's missed something along the way... |
EXTRAS
Marco has had Helena for ten years now, she was a birthday present from his father, whose influence in the finance sector was enough to get his only child a Pokemon. The Ninetales is more than intelligent enough to understand her owner and both Pokemon and man are extremely fond of each other. They consider each other along the terms of family and are adept at reading each other's mood.
All of Marco's published works are under a pen-name, i.e. Mr. Tsu Dou Nym. The readers find it funny, the critics not so much.
Mentioning Marco's family or inquiring after his childhood is a big no-no. Pressing him on the matter is one of the only ways to make him genuinely angry.
