site rules
IN CHARACTER
♦ Do not control other members' characters. - This is called power playing and is not acceptable on roleplaying sites. They are his or her's to roleplay, not your's, and should be written as such. When carrying out an action that involves physical interaction, replace things such as "he punched him in the face" to "he moved to punch him in the face".
♦ Do not make your character invincible. - This extends to Pokemon battles should it ever come down to it. If your character is impaled with a sword, they will not be running a marathon. In addition, if their Pokemon has been impaled with a sword, you'd better be running to a Pokemon Center rather than watching them continue to fight. Humans and Pokemon, of course, are able to dodge and withstand attacks, but don't go overboard, please.
♦ Keep posts in past tense, third person. - This is not so much of a rule to obey so much as a helpful suggestion, seeing as we like to promote creativity in all forms, but it would be a little strange to swap between one post in the aforementioned point of view to a second person, present tense voice. It just keeps everything more uniform. If you are used to other point of views and are struggling to make the switch, we won't hound you about it, but at least give it a try.
♦ Write something your fellow roleplayer can reply to. - The exception, is obviously, when closing a thread. However, every post before that must involve one character doing or saying something another character is able to react to. It is rather annoying when one character will leave a thread at random without any clear end point, so we ask that you either come to an agreement over finishing a thread or make sure that there are one or more other characters that can still participate in the thread you are leaving.
♦ Keep posts to a one hundred word minimal. - We all shudder in disgust at the sheer thought of posts with merely one sentence - you know it to be true - and so, to prevent that from happening, we have set up a very, very small word limit for your posts. You are welcome, though - encouraged, even - to go as above and beyond that as you wish.
♦ Make good use of the spell check. - We do not expect your spelling to be absolutely perfect one hundred percent of the time, but if you are prone to silly spelling errors, we ask that you use it frequently. It is your friend. Be friendly with it. After all - typos can lead to confusion, and confusion can lead to mistakes.
OUT OF CHARACTER
♦ Respect. - It's as simple as that. Respect. Respect yourself, respect your staff, respect your fellow members, respect wandering guests. Respect. You don't have to be the most friendly person in the world - just don't be the meanest.
♦ Keep your fighting to a minimum. - We know sometimes others can irritate you a bit, but don't go picking fights left and right. Be kind to others and they will be kind to you in turn. If you feel you must argue with someone else, keep it outside the site. We don't want the chat box being flooded with hurtful comments or the out of character boards and private messages.
♦ If you are leaving us, please leave a notice on the board. - This can be anything from a day or so absence to leaving the site forever. We can understand if it's something that comes up on a short notice, but if it's something that will keep you from role playing that you know in advance, you must let us know. You might be thought to be inactive, other wise, and risk getting your accounts deleted.
♦ Log in as frequently as you can. - Even if you are too busy to post much, it is nice to know that you're still alive and kicking. It is understandable if you're too busy for even that, but a log in a week would be highly appreciated.
♦ Do not post in character things in the out of character boards. - Exceptions to this are forum games meant for in character reactions. Aside from that, keep everything out of character - that's why it's called what it is.
CHARACTERS
♦ Mary Sues and Gary Stus are not tolerated. - Every person in real life has their strengths and weaknesses. Why shouldn't your characters be the same? When making your character, think about if their personality would be that of a person in real life. If your not sure if your character is a Mary Sue or not, look up a test and see if they are. If they are, then try to edit them and make them more realistic.
♦ You must have one account per character. - No more. No less. You should only have as many accounts as you have characters, as well, unless you are a staff member. Also, make sure to register your account name as the first and last name - if they have one - of your character.
♦ You are only allowed four characters to begin with. - Even more than that, you are only allowed to make one character for each province to begin with to keep the numbers as balanced as possible and to make sure that everyone has a little slice of everything instead of a whole pie in just one province. You are allowed one Illyis, one Akiro, one Nevita, and one Fripperi character from the get go; more characters can be purchased in the site store and any character passed four can be entered into any province you wish.
♦ You are allowed one stage one or stage two Pokemon to begin with. - While this may seem unreasonable or unfair, it makes more sense due to the setting of the site; Pokemon are rare and even rarer to own. Most humans only ever own one in their lifetime. This Pokemon can be evolved - it may even be fully evolved, but only if it evolves fully at its second stage - through items purchased in the site store and more Pokemon captured through purchasing the necessary items in the aforementioned store. Some events may allow you to start with two or a fully evolved Pokemon and canons are allowed two starter Pokemon - still stage one or stage two - off the get go; however, unless given permission, you cannot avoid this rule.
♦ If you are playing a canon character... - ...keep these things in mind. For starters, keep them as in character as possible. We don't discourage members from adding their own personal flare to an existing character, but taking a typically gentle character and turning them into a bloody thirsty murderer isn't going to fly with us in the slightest. If they do differ in noticeable from their original personality, please give us a solid and believable explanation in the history or others section of the application. Because this is a manga-verse roleplay, canons must be played in their manga-verse personalities. However, seeing as this is highly AU, you are allowed to change their personality as much as you wish within reason.
GENERAL
♦ Avatars should be no less than one hundred pixels by one hundred pixels. - If they are more than that, they will be automatically downsized; however, any smaller and things start to look silly.
♦ Signatures should be no more than five hundred seventy-five pixels wide. - They are unable to stretch the board, but it's nice to have an image without a good chunk of the right side cropped. They may be as tall as you wish, though we ask you don't go over five hundred pixels.
♦ Enjoy your stay. - We hope that you thoroughly enjoy your time spent here with us, short or long as it may be. After all, that's the entire point of the site! Welcome to Tonight the Stars Revolt!
