The initial onslaught from Sonic had done it's task and managed to cripple the dog-like Pokemon, which his memory had finally identified as a Mightyena. From there on in the Lucario had been forced to defend it's limping partner from Sonic's high speed, hit and run tactics while being put off balance every time it moved in to attack- courtesy of Ironhide.
As things were it would probably become a rather drawn out battle which would eventually end in Arthur's victory, but the ex-bandit always had a small patience when it came to battles and especially after he had smelled blood.
"Sonic; Dragon Rage!" he told his Gabite, who took a hint and spat out a twin of his earlier attack- aimed at the Mightyena which would be hard pressed to dodge.
But that was not what was the aim of the attack. The Lucario was conflicted between dodging and taking the bullet for his partner- giving Arthur the opening that had been his aim all along.
Ironhide was quickly recalled into his Pokeball and when the smoke cleared only Sonic and Lucario were left standing. The trainer of the Mightyena seemed more than a bit angry at that, but even idiots from the Patrol knew better than to get in between two dueling Pokemon.
A handy distraction came in from Elliot who had wrapped up his own battle post haste and was now gunning for the Lucario's trainer. Arthur felt the first inclination of goodwill for the man. Here was somebody who knew how to take advantage of the loopholes trainers usually left while battling and was not afraid to punch below the belt.
Putting the distraction to good use Arthur aimed with the Pokeball and unleashed Ironhide into the fray once more- directly beside the now extremely conflicted Lucario.
"Ironhide; Double Edge!" Arthur called out as the Lairon began to charge, but he wasn't quite done yet "Sonic; Dragon Rush!"
The Lucario was caught in between two unstoppable forces, the result all but decided, but Arthur decided to wait until he could witness the results himself before he started to celebrate.
