POKEMON marvel, dry skin, male parabolic charge ● thunderbolt rain dance ● bulldoze | HISTORY Reed Marling was born to a girl who was much too young -- both physically and mentally -- to be having a child. She understood the desires of her province, even fulfilling them, but in the end, she was incapable of handling the pressures of motherhood. She was a child, after all, and after little deliberation, she left him with her own mother and left even her mate for Nevita. So, Reed was raised by his grandmother in the remainder of the peaceful town of Agate. It was in that peaceful town of retired folks that he learned his life lessons, how to ride a bike, how to read, and the story of his nation, amongst other things. As most of the region had converted to traveling for a living, only a few people remained in the village full time, with some coming in and out from time to time. Most of Reed's time was spent listening to some of the older folks chatter, telling stories of their own lively endeavors and troubles and fascinating the young, reserved boy. Most of them revolved around the terrors of the Citadel and Oberste, including acts of theft, contempt, even murder from time to time. It all fascinated Reed, despite his lack of understanding for the situation at the time. After all, the Citadel didn't even care enough to look in the direction of Akiro, so it wasn't as if they were affecting his day-to-day. Reed simply listened and interpreted, as if each story was a bedtime story that would haunt his dreams. Years of the same ole' same ole' gave Reed time to fathom the reality of the situation that the Pokearth faced, all of those stories leading to one, single conclusion: the Citadel was awful and Illyis was nothing but its bitch-province. The typically kind boy was learning to hate the government, and these older men of Akiro were encouraging it, forming him into a fiery, somewhat begrudging child. Had it not been for Reed's grandmother, he'd probably be dead in a ditch somewhere. When he turned thirteen, his grandmother was diagnosed with some sort of dementia. It escalated too quickly for him to handle, yet there was nothing he could do. There was no expert medical facility in Agate, and they couldn't afford to send her somewhere that could do anything for her, so the thirteen year old was forced to spend all of his time caring for her. Over the next two years, he calmed down, preoccupied with his grandmother's ever-declining health. Soon enough, he was very self-sufficient, much more so than he should have been for his age. When it came time for him to marry -- a tradition he really had no overwhelming opinion of -- he was given a fourteen year old girl, Celia, from Gateon Port, a city that he'd visited only once in his years. Reed didn't mind her; she was funny and ambitious. He, of course, wasn't exactly ready to go anywhere, something Celia regretted. Out of obligation, she moved to Agate, tentatively helping Reed care for his grandmother. About a year passed, and the two of them fell into a routine. They were more like siblings than anything, running into obstacle after obstacle. When it came time for them to reproduce, Reed was more than hesitant. He believed sex to be something sacred, not just an action for reproduction, despite his old-fashioned influences. When she finally coaxed him into bed, Reed failed to meet her "needs," leaving both of them sexually frustrated to say the least. Reed felt horribly, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. So they took a break from "trying," continuing about their usual routines. They even decided to raise a Pokemon to fill the obvious disconnection between the two of them. It was a Helioptile, one that Reed named Marvel. Things settled down, Celia's obvious annoyance for her husband beginning to peter out. This all, of course, changed. One day, Reed's grandmother took ill. She needed medication that not even Agate's own Mart could supply, so the now seventeen year old boy was forced to travel to Gateon Port to get it. Upon returning from the day trip, he found his grandmother and Marvel sitting alone, no Celia to be found. Panic arose, and upon searching the house, Reed discovered that Celia had abandoned him. All of her belongings were gone, not even a sock remaining. All there was was a note that left her apologies. She was heading to the Hoenn region, a place she didn't want him to follow her to. He was left alone to care for his grandmother again. Nevertheless, Reed coped, finding refuge in hiking about the village with Marvel when he could. He was becoming an expert in caring for his grandmother, something that others were beginning to recognize. Before he knew it, Reed was the go-to-guy for medical attention, as the old herbalist had passed on. He accepted the challenge, continuing on with his small life as he tended to the elderly in a hostile world the best he could. |
